The Benefits of Flying by Private Jet

Time, privacy, flexibility and comfort: what you really get when you fly private instead of commercial, and when it is worth the extra cost.

Passengers boarding a Gulfstream private jet from a red carpet

Most people think of private aviation as a luxury. The people who fly it most often think of it as a tool. Here is what you actually get when you charter a private jet, and when the benefits justify the price.

You get your time back

Time is the biggest benefit, and the one people underestimate most. On a typical airline trip, the flight itself is a fraction of the journey: getting to a big airport early, security, boarding, waiting, connecting, baggage claim and the drive from a hub airport to where you are actually going.

Flying privately removes most of that. You arrive at a private terminal 15 to 30 minutes before departure, board without queues and fly direct. On landing, your car can often meet you beside the aircraft. A two-hour flight that takes six hours door to door on an airline can take three on a charter.

You choose the airport

There are around 5,000 public-use airports in the United States, but airlines serve only about 500 of them. Private aircraft can use thousands more, so you can land closer to your meeting, home or hotel. Fly into Teterboro instead of Newark, Van Nuys instead of LAX, or Aspen instead of Denver. Personal, round-the-clock service

With a charter broker like Ambition Jets, one advisor plans the trip around you and stays reachable 24/7. Catering, ground transport, pets and special requests are handled before you arrive. If your plans change, one call changes the flight.

A private, crowd-free experience

Private terminals (FBOs) are quiet, comfortable and discreet. On board, the cabin is yours. You can hold a confidential meeting, make calls, work without being overlooked, or simply rest. For people with a public profile, this privacy and security is often the deciding factor.

A better onboard experience

Even a light jet means no middle seats, no strangers and no waiting for the trolley. Larger aircraft add stand-up cabins, full galleys, Wi-Fi and seats that turn into beds. Your bags travel in the aircraft with you, so nothing gets lost.

Flexibility when plans change

The aircraft waits for you. If your meeting overruns, you leave when it ends. You can add a stop, change the destination or move the departure time, usually without starting again. And you can visit several cities in a day, which no airline schedule allows.

When it makes the most sense

  • Groups. The price is for the aircraft, not the seat. Four to eight people sharing a light or midsize jet can bring the cost per person down considerably.
  • Multi-stop days. Three cities in one day, home by dinner.
  • Poorly served routes. Places where airline travel means a connection or a long drive.
  • Time-critical trips. When missing a flight is not an option.
  • Travelling with pets, children or a lot of gear.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Is flying private worth the money?

It depends on what your time is worth and how many people are travelling. For groups of four or more, multi-stop days, or trips to airports with poor airline service, the cost per person can be closer to first class than most people expect, and the time saved is often several hours.

Is flying private safer than flying commercial?

US airlines have an exceptional safety record. A well-chosen Part 135 charter operator with strong independent safety ratings is also very safe. The key is choosing the operator carefully, which is why we vet every one we use.
