Some destinations are simply easier to reach by private jet. Others are only practical by private aircraft. Here are ten places our clients love, and what it takes to fly there.

1. St. Moritz, Switzerland

Engadin Airport (Samedan, LSZS) is the highest airport in Europe, at about 5,600 feet in a narrow Alpine valley. It requires special crew training and favourable weather, and the reward is landing minutes from St. Moritz rather than a three-hour drive from Zurich.

2. Norman's Cay, Bahamas

A sliver of white sand in the Exumas with a short private airstrip. Turboprops and small aircraft fly in from Nassau or Florida; travellers arriving from further afield connect from a jet in Nassau.

3. St. Barts, Sint Maarten and Anguilla, Caribbean

St. Barts (TFFJ) has one of the world's most famous approaches: a short runway ending at the beach, open only to small aircraft and specially trained pilots. Most clients fly a jet to Sint Maarten (SXM) and connect by small aircraft or boat. Anguilla (AXA) accepts light and midsize jets directly.

4. The Faroe Islands

Dramatic cliffs and waterfalls in the North Atlantic, between Iceland and Norway. Vágar (EKVG) handles business jets, but weather and wind change fast, so flexible timing helps.

5. Paro, Bhutan

Paro (VQPR) is surrounded by Himalayan peaks and is open only to pilots specially certified for it. Private jets usually fly to a nearby hub such as Delhi or Kathmandu, with the final leg on a specially approved aircraft.

6. Easter Island, Chile

Mataveri (SCIP) is one of the most remote airports on Earth, about 2,000 nautical miles from the Chilean mainland. A long-range jet makes the trip practical from Santiago or Tahiti, with careful fuel planning.

7. Telluride, Colorado

At over 9,000 feet, Telluride (TEX) is one of North America's highest airports, with a dramatic mesa-top runway minutes from town.

8. Ibiza, Spain

The summer capital of the Mediterranean. Ibiza (LEIB) gets very busy in July and August, so parking slots should be booked early. From the US East Coast, heavy jets fly nonstop and smaller jets make one stop; from European cities it is a short hop.

9. US Virgin Islands

St. Thomas (TIST) and St. Croix (TISX) accept most jets, and US citizens fly in without a passport. Smaller islands like St. John connect by boat.

10. The United States

Some of the world's most spectacular places are at home. See our top 10 US private jet destinations, from Aspen to Nantucket.
